Himalayan pink salt at 36% makes this the most physical step in the Head Spa range — a mineral scrub that lifts flakes and hardened sebum off the scalp surface by friction rather than dissolving them with acid. Sea water and calamine carry the rest of the formula, which is why it suits scalps that are oily and tender at once, where an acid exfoliant would sting. It is also sold under the Himalaya Salt name.

Key Benefits

  • Sodium Chloride from Himalayan pink salt at 36% gives granular, immediately noticeable exfoliation of flakes and sebum plugs
  • Sea Water at 16% supplies the marine mineral base the line is built around
  • Calamine at 1% is a long-established calming agent for itchy, reactive skin
  • Kelp and Wakame (Undaria pinnatifida) seaweed extracts condition the scalp through the scrub phase
  • Menthol relieves the hot, prickling scalp feeling that comes with heat and humidity
  • Panthenol helps the scalp hold moisture once scaling is finished, so it does not end up tight
  • Acid-free exfoliation: with no AHA or BHA in the formula it adds no photosensitivity and can alternate with an acid-based scalp treatment on other days

When to Use

As the opening step of a wash, once or twice a week, for oily scalps, scalp odour, visible buildup along the parting, and the heavy residue left by oiling routines, pomades and dry shampoo. It is a strong fit for hot, humid and dusty conditions where scalps are washed often and still feel coated, and it is the variant to recommend to customers who react badly to acids — useful positioning for pharmacy shelves and salon head spa menus alike.

How to Use

  • Rinse the hair and scalp with warm water.
  • Part the hair at roughly 1 to 2cm intervals and apply along each parting, directly onto the scalp.
  • Massage gently with fingertips for two to three minutes and let the salt crystals do the work — scrubbing hard with nails defeats the point.
  • Leave for one to three minutes.
  • Rinse very thoroughly with warm water, then shampoo and condition as usual.

Key Ingredients

  • Sodium Chloride (Himalayan Pink Salt), 36% — physical exfoliant
  • Sea Water, 16% — marine mineral base
  • Calamine, 1% — soothing mineral
  • Kelp Extract — seaweed extract
  • Undaria Pinnatifida (Wakame) Extract — seaweed extract
  • Diospyros Kaki (Persimmon) Extract — botanical extract
  • Camellia Japonica Leaf Extract — botanical extract
  • Ceratonia Siliqua (Carob) Fruit Extract — botanical extract
  • Menthol — cooling agent
  • Panthenol — pro-vitamin B5 humectant

Precautions

This is an abrasive salt scrub, so the real risks are mechanical rather than chemical. Keep it off a scalp with open scratches, sores, active folliculitis or raw patches, where salt will sting badly, and leave it out for a few days after colouring, perming or relaxing. No AHA, BHA or other photosensitising active is present, so no special sun precautions apply, but the menthol content will tingle and can feel sharp on a sensitive scalp. Do not use it in the same session as the Peeling Ampoule, the Peeling Shampoo or the acid-based Scalp Scaler. The high salt level makes a thorough rinse important, both for comfort and because residue keeps hair feeling rough. Keep away from the eyes. Patch test if the scalp is reactive, and discontinue use if irritation or persistent itching develops.
